Internet….rage…BUILDING…
Jan 31st, 2009 by James

After spending the last two weeks (GAH) laying low for fear of incurring the wrath of the internet Gods, i’m finally 4 days away from a new batch of download quota, and mercifully, a new 20 gig plan. Funnily enough, i actually had a draft of a blog post ready 15 days ago saying how i was about to do a whole bunch of stuff on the site, but then i discovered we were going through downloads so fast, it was as though every time somebody in the house wiped their ass, they were doing it with a different DVD full of illegally downloaded movies each time. And then a few seconds after this policy was instituted everybody contracted dysentery AND irritable bowel syndrome, simultaneously, and then ate a bottle of laxatives.

I forgot where i was going with that.

Right! We were coming very close to being capped (a fate worse than death, if you’re with optus), so we instituted a zero tolerance policy on non-critical internet usage (welcome to australia), and i have been sitting here for the past 15 days playing a combination of strategy games, and PEGGLE EXTREME.

Shady loses 20 man-points.

But as for what i actually HAVE done on  the site, you can look at the wiki page on candy, which i still cannot convince myself is finished (note the empty “invention” section, that i am yet to find inspiration for). However since i’m sick of candy for now, you can expect my next updates to be on the newly conceived “life points” page, which includes, but is not limited to, man-points.

As always, remember to check chat logs and out of context for new stuff, those are the few pages that get consistent and regular updates!

Y’all come back now y’hear?!

Server Migration Complete!
Jan 29th, 2009 by Matthew

Hi everyone,

After 13 man-hours the server is now totally migrated. Email works once again, and better than ever might I add. We’ve now got antivirus and spam filtering on all email accounts, as well as proper encryption on all communication if your client supports it.

All up we’re content with the move, and we hope that you enjoy the stability and speed of the new server!

Migration Progress
Jan 28th, 2009 by Matthew

Hi everyone,

This blog entry is the first to be posted on the new server. We have successfully migrated to a new box with 8 times the RAM and much more power than a virtual machine. Sure, it wasn’t all easy going – we lost this blog for a couple of hours – but it’s all up now.

Things like email and our TeamSpeak server are going to take a bit longer to complete, so we’ll keep you up to date with what’s going on.

On behalf of the WikiForAll team, thanks for being patient and we all hope that you find the new experience faster and easier than ever before!

Server Migration, 25 January 2009 – 1 February 2009
Jan 20th, 2009 by Matthew
Hi everyone,

Due to a migration of the server that we have planned, there may be some minor disruption in services from the 25th of January 2009 to the 1st of February 2009. We are of course going to try to make the switch as seamless as possible, however we cannot promise that the site will work without a hitch after the migration (or during it).

This thread will be updated with more information closer to the date.

Thanks,

Matthew

Reporting for duty!
Jan 3rd, 2009 by James

In case you hadn’t already noticed, winforall and the wiki have been fairly inactive for the past few weeks, and the reason for that is the fact that Matthew and myself have been very busy during the christmas period. Also i believe if WE don’t have time for the site, you shouldn’t either. Ya nerd.

Whats more, you may have noticed that i haven’t uploaded my monthly comic, and it is in fact the 3rd of January (2nd if you’re in america. Backwards bunch.) And the reason for this is that i went over my download quota, and my speed has been capped.

Whats that i hear you say? “Whoopdy friggin do, just upload the comic, it can’t be that bad”?

Well then let me tell you a story. In a pointless attempt to spite my telco, i’ve been downloading away since 2pm, solid, on my itty bitty slow-ass connection, and in those four hours i’ve downloaded 21.4MB. By my calculations, its going to take just over an hour to upload this comic at those speeds (keeping in mind uploads are far slower than downloads), and somehow i don’t trust the server to not time out somewhere along the line.

Also, matthew is attempting to send me a 753KB file, and its currently stuck on 666KB. Coincidence? I think NOT!

Last of all, I come bearing tidings. The server may soon be upgraded to its own box! Matthew will probably make a post with details closer to the event. It might be a little while, but its something on the horizon to look forward to in the next couple of months.
